Global Carbon Markets Project: an initiative that will contribute to the development of carbon market instruments and climate finance in Chile.
Global Carbon Market (GCM) is a project developed by the German International Cooperation Agency (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeitel or GIZ) in collaboration with the Chilean Ministry of Energy. Commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU).
The project is funded by the German Ministry of the Environment and, in addition to Chile, also has activities in India and Uganda. Its design and development are taking place in a crucial period for our country, which is on its way to meeting the greenhouse gas mitigation goals committed to in the framework of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.
Through studies, publications, national and international dialogue, thematic conferences, international tours and other similar training formats, the Global Carbon Markets project is articulated as a strategic ally of the Ministry of Energy and other key actors in the field.
It is a joint effort, which aims, among other objectives, to generate the necessary knowledge in order that decision makers in the public and private sectors, prepare to use carbon pricing instruments and know climate finance mechanisms to implement mitigation actions, in addition to presenting Chile as a serious actor in the fight against climate change at the international level.
